IB: The process once the offer has been made


I have an offer from an IB for a graduate role and I wanted to ask a few questions about what happens once the offer has been made.

  1. Is it common for them to make the offer over the phone and then send the contract out via post? I haven’t received an email offer, just a call so far and I’m wondering if this is common practice.

  2. What exactly do the employment background checks involve? Obviously they check educational and professional history but does it also involve things like credit history checks and landlord references? I don’t really mind them checking all of that I just wanted to know since I’ve never had one before.

I’ve heard of background checking agencies coming up with the wrong information about candidates or confusing them with someone else. If something untoward comes up in the background check would they give the candidate a chance to clarify or just withdraw the offer?
